Actor and Comedian Anthony Anderson "FACES" Diabetes

(November 14, 2011)  Today is National Diabetes Day and many of you are waking up to some sobering statistics.  Health officials now predict in less than three years, 1-in 10 Americans will be affected with diabetes. For the second straight year Actor/Comedian Anthony Anderson is helping with raising the awareness by becoming the face of Eli Lilly's F-A-C-E campaign; "Fearless African-American Connected and Empowered Diabetes initiative. November is American Diabetes Month. With type 2 diabetes, which is the most common form of diabetes, the body doesn't make enough insulin or the body ignores the insulin that is made. We need insulin so we can use the glucose our body produces for energy from the food we eat. 7 million people are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

According to the American Diabetes Association, while 24 million people currently live with type 2 diabetes, there are ways to delay onset or prevent the disease. Increasing your level of physical activity, changing your diet and maintaining a healthy weight can help you reduce your risk and stay healthy longer."
